Theo như đề án này đưa ra, “đến năm 2020 gạo Việt Nam sẽ được quảng bá rộng rãi đến ít nhất 20 thị trường xuất khẩu; đồng thời thương hiệu gạo quốc gia được bảo hộ quyền sở hữu trí tuệ dưới hình thức nhãn hiệu chứng nhận tại Việt Nam và ít nhất 50 quốc gia”.
Đây là hướng đi đúng đắn để phát triển nền nông nghiệp của Việt Nam, dẫu biết đất nước còn nhiều khó khăn trong việc cạnh tranh với những thị trường mạnh hơn. Tuy nhiên, muốn phát triển thì cần phải nâng cao hơn nữa vấn đề thương hiệu, đặc biệt là những địa phương cung cấp số lương gạo lớn, cũng như những địa phương có các sản phẩm gạo nổi tiếng. Hiện nay, người ta vẫn thường nhắc tới vấn đề thương hiệu nhưng vấn đề này vẫn chưa được chú trọng đúng mức, ngoài các chiến lược maketting, quảng cáo thì ý thức về thương hiệu càng có vai trò quan trọng.
