Sản phẩm của quá trình sáng tạo nhiều khi cũng không thể bảo vệ được một cách tốt nhất nếu tác giả không biết cách giữ gìn thành quả từ quá trình lao động sáng tạo đó. Với sự bùng nổ về công nghệ thông tin, nhiều công trình ứng dụng đã được ra đời và tạo ra được những bước đột phá nhất định. Tuy nhiên, các tác giả của những công trình đó đang phải đối mặt với vấn nạn bản quyền, vì rất nhiều người chưa am hiểu pháp luật về sở hữu trí tuệ.
Bảo vệ bản quyền tác giả cho những công trình đó là quyền lợi chính tác giả chứ không phải là bất kì ai khác, do đó việc bảo vệ quyền lợi đó là vô cùng cần thiết. Để không bị xâm phạm về bản quyền, tác giả các phải đăng ký quyền tác giả với Cục bản quyền Việt Nam. Tránh các trường hợp “mất bò mới lo làm chuồng”, giống như việc một chương trình game mang tên: “Halloween Nightmare” của nhóm các tác giả trẻ là các bạn sinh viên trường Đại học Bách Khoa Hà Nội vừa bị một người có tên Atom Boog quốc tịch Trung Quốc ăn cắp phần mềm game đó với cái tên “Halloween Nightmare Adventure” được chạy trên chợ ứng dụng WindowsPhone của Trung Quốc. Được biết, nhóm các tác giả trẻ này đã cho ra đời game này vào ngày 27/11/2014 và đã thu hút được hơn 20.000 lượt tải về trên các hệ điều hành của các sản phẩm điện thoại di động. Tuy nhiên, vì vốn hiểu biết ít ỏi về vấn đề bản quyền và sở hữu trí tuệ, nên các tác giả đã không đăng ký bản quyền tác giả. Ngày 6/3/2015, tác giả mới biết game của mình có ở trên chợ ứng dụng WindowsPhone của Trung Quốc và đang nằm trong Top 15 game ăn khách nhất trên hệ điều hành này. Hai game này có logo giống hệt nhau, theo tác giả Hồ Nam Khánh-một trong những người sáng lập ra game này cho biết: ““Bằng chứng ăn cắp rõ nhất chính là lời đọc dẫn truyện do thành viên của nhóm em đọc [bằng tiếng Anh-pv] vẫn được giữ nguyên trên Halloween Nightmare Adventure”. Các tác giả của game này đã tố việc vi phạm bản quyền trên với Microsoft và đang chờ kết quả trả lời.
Qua đó, có thể nhận thấy một thực trang không chỉ riêng các chương trình game, phần mềm máy tính mà các sáng chế cũng như công trình sáng tạo của nhiều tác giả vẫn đang “lơ là” với vấn đề đăng ký và bảo vệ bản quyền tác giả. Đó chính là cơ sở pháp lý để bảo vệ quyền lợi chính đáng cho các tác giả trong những trường hợp có tranh chấp bản quyền xẩy ra. Đây là một điều đáng phải quan tâm trong thời đại công nghệ số như ngày nay.
